Entering the Country
Fifteen of the twenty-five countries in the European Union have signed the Schengen Treaty, the goal of which was to eliminate border controls within the EU and at the same time strengthen the border controls on the outer borders of the union. For visitors arriving from one of the Schengen countries (Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, or Spain, there is no passport control when entering Austria. However, to maintain public order and security, random controls may be set up from time to time.

From the Airport to the City
Center To get from Schwechat Airport, which is located outside the city limits, to the center of the city, you can choose either the City Airport Train, one of the airport express buses, the city railroad, the Vienna Airport Service, or a taxi. More information >

Bratislava Airport
Bratislava Airport is located 65 km from the center of Vienna. A bus from Südtiroler Platz (U1) takes you there in approximately 90 minutes. Single ride: about 5.50 €, round-trip ticket about 10.50 €. The train from the main station in Bratislava to Vienna’s Südbahnhof leaves every two hours from 8:32 am to 12:32 am, tickets about 10.30 €. The 61 bus line commutes every 10 to 20 minutes from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm from the airport to the main station. The Express Taxi gets to the center of Vienna in about 45 minutes, about 45 € (Tel. 00421 902 222 333).
